Artistic Description
Olive Trees have been the greatest inspiration for Najat El-Taji El-Khairy's artistic work. To her, they represent the true nature of the people of Palestine.
They are symbols of peace, resistance, resilience, endurance, perseverance, nourishment, healing, and prosperity. Quite simply, they are symbols of life itself. Capable of living for thousands of years, they are an homage to the land of Kanaan and its inhabitants, providing work, food, oil, soap, medicine, and shade for its people.
Najat paints her olive trees on porcelain tiles, each undergoing several firings to preserve the work. The use of porcelain tiles is also a symbol of endurance, as the raised enamel technique gives each leaf its special effect and importance, while the branches extend bearing the venerated Palestinian olives - known as the “Fruits of Peace”.
