The early Arabs were a nomadic people. They acknowledged the power and beauty of words so much so that they became an art form unto themselves. Poetry was common in daily life. Arabs took delight in language skills and showed their appreciation in the form of highly visual calligraphy – which ultimately played a significant role in Islamic scripture.

Arabic calligraphy represents unity, beauty, and power. It reflects cultural values as it integrates both artistry and history. To many it is almost abstract in form, and becoming increasingly popular as an art. – For this reasoning Najat seeks to preserve it on porcelain.

She reproduces Arabic calligraphy using a special pen and brush technique. The work is often enameled to give it an embossed look. 24 karat gold can also be incorporated into a design, which when fired, gives added glamour and richness to the piece.
